Our Services

Advanced reconstructive surgery for trauma, cancer recovery, and amputees, tailored to your unique needs to restore quality of life.

What We Do

At Relimb we aim to cater for all of the reconstructive needs of any patient (whether amputee or non-amputee), by offering a spectrum of services that transcends the traditional boundaries of what might be expected from a plastic surgeon. As seasoned NHS consultants, we specialise in all aspects of reconstructive surgery and can offer surgical solutions to the consequences of trauma, cancer treatment, congenital deformity, ageing and a multitude of other diseases.

Relimb was born out of an initial fascination with nerve regeneration and a determination to treat the (often debilitating) neuroma and phantom limb pain experienced by amputees. Inspired by the pioneering work of Dr Greg Dumanian and Prof Ted Kuiken in the USA, we learnt to use Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) surgery, and were amazed by the remarkable improvements we achieved for our patients over the past decade.

This work made us realise that our patients usually suffer from many more problems beyond their nerve pain. It soon became evident that one treatment in particular (osseointegration surgery) could play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life of many of the same patients we treated with TMR surgery. So, collaborating with Prof Al-Muderis, a key figure in the world of osseointegration surgery, we were eventually able to learn how to perform this surgery safely and routinely.

Armed with our knowledge on TMR and osseointegration surgery, we setup the Relimb Service in 2018. Initially, our aim was to create a service that could cater for all of the surgical needs of amputees. However, we quickly learned that amputees and those who suffer from complex traumatic injuries often have to deal with very fragmented care pathways. To address this, we started to create more detailed and tailored packages of surgical care to solve all of the unique needs of each patient from A – Z, thereby creating a “one-stop” destination providing all the reconstructive surgical needs for our patients. Partnering closely with Dorset Orthopaedic, renowned for their expertise in post-injury rehabilitation, this helped to create a seamless continuum of care for our patients.

We are proud about what Relimb has been able to achieve. Although we now offer osseointegration and TMR surgery routinely to amputees, we also provide surgical solutions to many patients who are not amputees but still have complex needs. For example, osseointegration surgery allows us to reconstruct absent eyes, noses and ears including placing bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA). However, when necessary we can also perform cosmetic procedures, to enhance the lives of our patients.

If you or a loved one think that you could benefit from our expertise, we encourage you to reach out to our team, either directly or through your case manager.
